paul frankl is a queer filmmaker and editor from london

I have a love for telling emotive, character-based stories, particularly those of outsiders. I have edited documentaries for clients including the BBC, ITV, C4, Hulu, VICE and Netflix.

My short films have screened at festivals around the world including Tribeca, Palm Springs, Rhode Island, the Iris Prize and Aesthetica and collectively have over 1.2M views online.

My environmentally themed, magic realist short THE LIFE TREE (2020) was made as part of
The Uncertain Kingdom short film project. The script was selected as one of the winners from over 1200 open submissions and is available on various VoD platforms as part of the collection.

GOLD STAR (2019) was a Pears Jewish Film Fund finalist, screened at UK Jewish Film Festival, nominated for several awards at Underwire Film Festival and has over 140,000 views on the Omeleto Youtube channel.

ROXANNE (2015) was funded by Absolut Vodka, premiered at LGBT Pride 2015, screened at over 30 festivals and made a Vimeo staff pick. Before this short, I won Bombay Sapphire's inaugural Imagination Series competition in 2012.

I am in development of a range of feature film and TV projects, including TCHAIKOVSKY, which I received early development funding by the BFI Network for. I’m also developing his queer, climate change themed feature film SEA CHANGE.

I have been selected for Director’s UK Inspire mentorship 2023/4 and am currently being mentored by Euros Lyn.

I am part of the BAFTA Connect inaugural scheme, have taken part in Edinburgh Film Festival Connections lab, London Film Festival’s Think, Shoot, Distribute lab, and been shortlisted and paired with a mentor for Channel 4’s 4Screenwriting scheme.
